The 2026 Product Photography Checklist
Great e-commerce product imagery is not luck — it's a checklist. Here's the one we run before every shoot.
1. Colour target on set
Every scene starts with a colour checker and a white/grey card. Skin, fabric, and product colours must render exactly on the buyer's screen.
2. Amazon & Shopify specs
Amazon requires pure-white backgrounds (RGB 255,255,255) with the product filling 85% of the frame. Shopify is more forgiving but still rewards consistency.
3. Angles you actually need
- Hero front
- 3/4 angle
- Overhead flat-lay
- Scale reference (in-hand or on model)
- Detail macro
4. Retouching that doesn't lie
Dust and stray hairs — yes. Reshaping the product to something it isn't — no. Returns kill margin faster than any missed sale.
The best product image is the one that arrives at the buyer's door looking identical.
5. Delivery formats
Deliver in three sizes: 2000px hero, 1200px web, 800px catalogue. WebP + JPEG. Colour-tagged sRGB for web, Adobe RGB for print.
